Visitation: Visitation will be Friday from 2-7 p.m., family present from 5-7 p.m., at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD.
Service: Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 26 at Forest Hill Cemetery followed by a 2:00 p.m. memorial service at Bethany Reformed Church in Canton.
Marilyn J. Schultz, age 86, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2019 surrounded by her family at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation will be Friday from 2-7 p.m., family present from 5-7 p.m., at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 26 at Forest Hill Cemetery followed by a 2:00 p.m. memorial service at Bethany Reformed Church in Canton. Memorials may be directed to the Canton Senior Citizens Center.
Marilyn was born on July 27, 1933 in Chicago, IL to Peter and Florence Dering. As a child she lived in Chicago and South Holland, IL and graduated from Thornton High School in Harvey, IL. She was united in marriage to the Rev. Marvin Schultz on March 7, 1952 in Lansing, IL. They lived in various locations that included South Holland, IL and Holland, MI. Following Marvin’s call to ministry, the couple served in churches in Vancouver, B.C., Canton, SD, and Newark, NY before retiring back to Canton.
Above all, Marilyn loved her Lord and family. She was a loving caregiver for her husband for many years, demonstrating the true commitment of what it means, “to have and to hold”.
Marilyn was an active member of Bethany Reformed Church in Canton since 1989. She worked at the Good Samaritan Center in Canton, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and The Alpha Center, and served as President of the Parkinson’s Association of SD in Sioux Falls. She was also active in the Canton Senior Center and served on their board.
She is survived by her children: Ron (Deb) Schultz of Glendale, AZ, Laura (Terry) Dozark of Inwood, IA, Nancy (Don) Versteeg of Canton, SD, Chris (Luke) Schouten of Sibley, IA, and Paul (Edie) Schultz of Schoharie, NY; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; siblings, Ray (Jean), Roger, and Aldena; along with numerous extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Rev. Marvin Schultz, brother Ben and sisters, Joan and Amy.
